Description: Hello and welcome to the House of Chrome. You are looking at a nice 1st generation 1940's era American D4 model dynamic microphone made in Los Angeles, California. This particular model came without the center name badge often associated with the later D4 & D4T's. The earlier model came with nothing more than an American decal located on the bottom half of the microphone (not in the center black stripe) which generally rub off and that is exactly what happened with this example. This mic comes with the short cable in which to operate. This was an American model mic that was used at just about every event by Bob Hope during his performance shows in Korea during the war with the U.S.O as seen in pic # 2. Pic # 3 shows this very model in a 1940's era American catalog along with it's basic characteristics. This lite weight mic is the size of a very large egg and is quite easy to hold and cup for prolonged periods of time. These mic generally came in the high impedance setting. The D4T mics were all High Z and were well known for being excellent "general purpose" mics being used for broadcasting, paging and other communication purposes. The D4 was identical to the D4T except that the D4 was set at low impedance. Even though this D4 is Low Z it's basically void of bass and has a very dirty tone. This mic would be excellent for a "rockabilly" sound if you that is what you are looking for? The microphone has all original components. The signal strength is 100% and omni-directional in nature. The joint mechanism holds strong and allows for a smooth rotation to any degree needed. Mic is solid with zero loose parts or rattling. The satin chrome housing has a nice luster and free of fractures, scratches or engravings. Just very tiny blemishes. The center black painted section has a few smaller paint chips. The finish is silky smooth and fits in your palm easily. A very nice example of an early model American D4 microphone. I would give it a solid 8 on a cosmetic scale of 1 - 10. The mic comes with the short vintage cable in which to operate. It's just 7 inches in length. Soft, pliable and free of dry rot or cracks. It has the quality vintage Cannon male XLR end connector as well so you can simply leave the short cable screwed onto the mic and simply attach any longer XLR cable of choice as an extension when you are ready to use the mic. Far more practical and it will help keep from damaging the threads on the mic. This D4T will screw onto any desk or floor stand that you have. MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS NOT PART OF THIS SALE...USED FOR DISPLAY PURPOSES ONLY. As with all my vintage items... I can promise you will be happy with it for the price paid. If not...I have a no hassle return policy. The shipping will be on you as I believe that's fair but the purchase price would be refunded. Simply return in the same nice condition...period.
