Goldsmith 97 South Atlantic League (Sally League) baseball with league president stamped on side panel.The baseball has superb red & black stitching.Jacksonville (Jax) versus Columbus, June 26th 1939.Has batteries of both teams plus the teams, score and date written on the ball.Jacksonville won 3-0.The Jacksonville battery included pitcher Lee Anthony and catcher William Taylor. Lee Anthony finished the season with a 15-11 record. He pitched for Jacksonville for 2 more seasons (1940-41) before spending 4 years in the military during WW2. After the war Anthony pitched until 1957 including 6 seasons in the Pacific Coast League. He was 16-11 for the Los Angeles Angels in 1948.The 1939 league champion Columbus battery included pitcher Ed Wissman and catcher Charles Zachritz. Wissman had a 21-9 record in 1939.
