Description: This very old, likely antique, covered serving dish comes from Tunstall, England, and was made by W.H. Grindley. The blue floral pattern, called "Spring," is displayed on the sides and top of the dish, with the imprint being inside the lid, not on the bottom. The blue mark, surrounding a globe, says RJ on top, above the word "Spring," and below the globe are the words "W.H. Grindley, Tunstall." There is a number that appears to say 51058 or maybe 51056... we've not been able to identify it. Considering the age, this piece is in decent shape. No breaks or chips. There is some staining and what looks like a hairline crack within the glaze at the bottom, not apparent to the touch and not showing through on the inside. That said, it is probably wise not to use this for very hot contents or at least, not without an inner container. If not used for its intended purpose, we can see it used to store holiday napkins, or left uncovered, heaped with ornaments or planted with forced bulbs (like paperwhites). Either way, this piece would be at home in a breakfront or on a shelf. This maker was active in the 1890s, so these are not in abundant supply. Weighs 2 lbs 15 oz before packing. Victorian charm.
