Description: Here is a beautiful vintage (Youth sized) 1980's made in Taiwan Bill Buckner Model MM200F baseball 1st baseman's mitt or glove for a Left-Hand thrower and thus fits on the right hand. Buckner WAS a lefty himself, so this mitt is a correct handed mitt if you collect based on the players handedness. The mitt was made in Taiwan is a youth sized mitt measuring 11" long through the pocket. I don't have any catalog info on this mitt. Stamped on the front of the mitt is MM200F, "the athletes choice", Full Grain Leather, Bill Buckner (facsimile signature), Deep Grip Pocket, MacGregor circle M logo w/MacGregor below that and Dual Flex Action. On the back is stamped Hand Crafted, Rawhide Laced, MacGregor and Taiwan. There is a (probably) fake fur lining underneath the backstrap. There is a nice orangish red original MacGregor patch sewn on the back. The mitt has Lincoln P.E. written on the backside and that's the only owner's ink on it. Otherwise the mitt is really sharp and even though it is mostly broken in, it shows very little use. The inside and outside stamping is all readable. Mitt has a pretty nice orangish MacGregor cloth patch on the back. The interior and exterior leather is still soft on this mitt. Interior leather is soft and smooth with no chafing on it. The lacing is original and intact. The piping is soft vinyl with very light wear. The thumb & pinky loops are functional and useable. Bill Buckner had a long 20 season career and played long stints with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Chicago Cubs and Boston Red Sox. He amassed a total of 2,715 hits, 1,268 RBI's and a .289 career batting average. He also was a member of the 1973 NY Mets World Series team that ended up losing to the Oakland A's. He was an All-Star in 1981 for the Cubs and won the NL batting title in 1980 with a .324 batting average. He was a left handed thrower and hitter. He was a left fielder and a first baseman. His career covers 4 decades as he played from 1969 to 1990. He played in the 1979 World Series for the LA Dodgers and for the Red Sox in the 1986 World Series. He is infamous with Red Sox fans as Mookie Wilson's hit to him at first base went through his glove in game 6 of that series, which the Mets went on to win. For some redemption, there is a great Curb Your Enthusiasm episode featuring him, and he gets some thumbs up for that.
