Description: This is an early pre–Griswold ERIE No 9 baking gem pan. This is the second design of this pan and is more common than the first No 9 designed pans. This design was manufactured from 1890 to the 1950s. There are 6 versions of this pan, and this appears to be a version 1 (per Haussler, Schiffer Publishing, 1997). Because this is the first variation in the series, this one dates to the 1890s. Pan is in amazing condition for its age and is free of etching and pitting from corrosion found on similar aged cast iron cookware. No cracks, chips, or repairs. This item was stripped down to bare metal using collector approved lye bath and electrolysis treatments. This process ensures the removal of all residue from previous use making it safe to use once more. The item is lightly seasoned with one round of Crisco at 450 for 1 hour. This item was photographed in very bright light to highlight fine details. Under these lighting conditions, items may take on a brown color. Items are much darker under normal light.
