Vallerysthal 5 inch Milk Glass Hen on Nest Covered Dish circa 1900s HON sm chips

Description: This pretty little hen on a nest dish has survived for a long time. It was made by Vallerysthal, in France, probably around the 1890s-1920s. It has the opal fire quality in the edges. This particular hen was acquired from a French colony in India. It appeared to have been painted all over, at one time, but the paint was nearly all gone, so I scrubbed off the rest of it, leaving a sparkling white hen. There is a touch of black paint still at the base of her beak, and a couple of tiny flecks of paint that didn't come off. The base measures 5” long. There is roughness around the inner rim of the base, where several tiny nicks are chipped out of the extra glass in the mold seam and there are several minuscule chips, 2 mm or less, in the edge of the inner rim. There are 3 small chips on the point of her tail, and a couple of tiny chips in the scallops of her tail. There is also a small chip in the bottom rim of the lid. The largest of any of the chips is 5 mm long (on the top edge of the tail), and most are only 1 mm long, or less. She is in good condition for a 100+ year old hen!
