What's on this DVD; US Navy Old Battleships 1st Film; "A Day at Sea on a Battleship". This was a pre-WW2 film about the life and a day aboard a Battleship of the line; about 1938. Quite fascinating. A cameraman was asked to film a day on a ship at sea. It a starts of with wakeup, coffee, swabbing the decks, spit-polishing the ship, breakfast, Exercise, breakfast, relaxing, Gun practice, General Quarters, Fleet maneuvers, ship crafts and the end of a day. You get the fell why sailors say it is there home, because it really is. Runtime 18:57 Min's 2nd Film; "Blue Jackets 1942". This film is about the US Navy Fleet that shows all of the major ships of the Navy from Submarines, Destroyers, Cruisers, Carriers, to Battleships. Each is shown how they function in the Navy and how they are to used to fight the war with Japan. Great footage of all of the fleet in Pearl but it also shows the Battleships going through the Panama Canal. This film shows the navy puts there best foot forward just after Dec. 7th. Runtime 17:43 Min's 3rd Film; "We Said We'd be Back". This film shows the build up the fleet in the pacific. Starts off with of course, Battleships, and goes through the fleet as America builds up her war arsenal against Japan. This was the very thing Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto was worried about if Japan went to war with America and about, America's industrial strength put into action. It is almost un-comprehensible how big the US Navy got in 1944 and 45 Amazing stuff. Runtime 14:41 Min's 4th Film; "Home from the Sea". This was produced by the Dept of the Navy and it tells the story of our battleships from the beginning to the Memorial at Pearl with the Arizona. Lots of footage and stories of the ships like the Old Ironsides, USS Olympia, USS Texas, USS N. Carolina, (Showboat) USS Missouri, and the USS Arizona. Really great stuff. Runtime 8:08 Min's 5th Film; "Battleship Crossroads". This a combination of pre-ww2 films about the Pacific Fleet Armada. The Pacific fleet in 1938 did a practice run on pearl and showed that Pearl harbor was venerable to a carrier attack. Although the Navy did the experiment, It is obvious that they did not learn from it. The rest of the film is about fleet maneuvers and Hawaii vacation for the sailors. Runtime 12:06 Min's 6th film; "Battleship Newsreels". This a collection of newsreels about battleships. 1st, Old Ironsides. 2nd, USS Maine. 3rd, Anchors Aweigh. 4th, N. Carolina (Showboat) being tested out. 5th, Navy Day. 6th, Japan surrenders on board the USS Missouri. Runtime 24:18 Min's Bonus. "Footage New Jersey and USS Arizona". In 1989, My wife and our children filmed the USS New Jersey at Long Beach were she was stationed at the time. That day she was in the bay so we circled her in our sailboat. We filmed with a old VHS camera. Low quality by today standard. Plus, I was going through our footage and came across a segment of men cutting off the mast of the sunken USS Arizona. Just thought it was worth showing, and of course we wish to honor the all those men who died that day.
