USA WW2 Camillus MK2 fighting knife, 1st model “nut pommel” type, NORD scabbard

Description: Scarce and desirable early-production manufactured early in the war by Camillus Cutlery in Camillus, NY. The “treaded nut” pommel design has proved to fail under stress and was quickly discontinued. Blued blade; ricasso is stamped CAMILLUS, N.Y. on one side, U.S.N. on the other. Leather washers “fat handle” with heavy round pommel and slightly curved guard; all parts are tight. The knife is about 11-3/4″ / 303 cm overall; blued blade is about 6-3/4″ /17.2 cm. The blade has almost all of its original deep gun-blue finish remaining; factory edge is razor-sharp; the tip is intact. Original NORD USN MK 2 composition scabbard was made by Victory Plastics division of Beckwith Manufacturing (B.M. Co.). The numbers on the back of the throat indicate July 1944 delivery to the Navy. This is a hard to find early Camillus Cutlery “treaded lug nut” pommel MK2 – these were manufactured for a VERY short time in limited quantities. The “treaded nut” pommel design has proved to fail under stress and was quickly discontinued. Blued blade; ricasso is stamped CAMILLUS, N.Y. on one side, U.S.N. on the other; the guard is unmarked, as it should be for this type. Leather washers “fat handle” with heavy round pommel and slightly curved guard; all parts are tight with no play. The knife is about 11-3/4″ / 303 cm overall; blued blade is about 6-3/4″ /17.2 cm. The blade has almost all of its original deep gun-blue finish remaining; factory edge is razor-sharp; the tip is intact. Original “navy-gray” NORD U.S.N. MK 2 composition scabbard was made by Victory Plastics division of Beckwith Manufacturing (B.M. Co.). The numbers on the back of the throat indicate that this scabbard was part of the the first delivery to the Navy which started in July 1944. This specimen was part of first two batches of new composition-materials model that had replaced the early-war all-leather scabbards. The scabbard looks unused with original finish; no cracks on plastic or stains on the webbing, the keeper is intact. During the war most of MK2s were used in the field as intended; these early MK2s are VERY hard to find – a rare find and a great addition to any collection. This MK2 set is in excellent 100% serviceable condition, you will not be disapointed.
