Hussey, became infamous in the 1800s for producing counterfeit 'Locals' and other postage stamps. “Hussey’s Post”, New York City, N.Y. 1854-1889)This was a local mailing and circular delivery service established by George Hussey. The bulk of their service consisted of Bank and Insurance notices, bills, circulars and other commercial mail matter. Hussey was a Philatelist and many of his issues and reprintings were for collecting purposes, but were available to pre-pay the charges on matter passing through his post. In 1873, he sold the post to Robert Easson, who continued the operation until 1889. Hussey's forgeries were so convincing that they were widely circulated Hussey's forgeries have since become collectible in their own right, as they represent an interesting chapter in philatelic history
