Description: US Utility Patent: Laminate Flooring - Vinyl Plank Layout Tape Measure MANNINGTON QuickStep SHAW Condition is New. The Laminate Flooring industry in the USA alone in 2019 exceeded 27 BILLION Dollars. Just a 1% increase in sales would be $270,000,000.00 a year. Imagine an ARMY of Installers pushing YOUR brand and only your brand on their customers and the shops they work for. The vast majority of Laminate, Vinyl Plank or Hardwood Flooring Installers start on the longest wall of a home, because they are lazy, want to get the biggest 'field' laid out and by the time they get to a load bearing column, stair rail, gas, water or electrical line they rely on luck to have the seam land within the footprint of the obstruction. Now, with the Layout tape Measure, they can visually see in seconds, without even bending over if their starting wall will allow an easy installation, or if they will have to put a hole in the middle of a plank and remove mentioned obstruction. Many do not have license for that or want the extra work. Now, they can measure from the opposite wall to quickly see if they problem goes away from starting from the North, East, South or West side of the job. If all else fails, they can see visually how much to remove from the planks to start with a rip cut. Regarding doorways, they often run into the dreaded 'H shaped board, that without the time or skill, results in an unnecessary transition being installed which the customers hate, as well as one more transition that can fail, causing an embarrassing and costly return to fix. Or even that long wall with a 1" strip of flooring before the baseboard which look bad. Ceramic Tile Installers are expected to think thru their layout for a professional result. Why are Laminate, Vinyl Plank and Hardwood Installers not doing the same? This also helps an installer visualize how much of a plank is going to be available if running into an unusual shaped fireplace or stonework. Of course you would want at least 1/2 of a plank to cut into, vs, only an inch or so, which would be weak in strength aspect as well as visual unappealing. By using a my 'Layout Tape Measure' a Salesman, Estimator or Installer has a very visual que, without even bending over as to where the planks will end from any starting point. Starting the job from the North, East, South or West side of the home or a simple rip cut on the first wall, or changing the starting wall can save weak points in the floor, difficult or impossible cuts, ugly transitions, and provide the customer with a floor that just looks more 'thought out'. The one of about 30 manufactures who buy my patent can have their own company colors, and brand name on the tape measure. Nearly every one of my hundreds of customers asked me, "Did that Salesman really sell me a good floor?" If I was writing down the estimate with a YOUR BRAND Pen, the customer asked me about YOUR BRAND. If I'm holding a YOUR BRAND Tape Measure, the customer is going to ask me about YOUR BRAND. If I had had this device when I was an installer, I would lean toward the company who sold them (or gave them away), so I could lay out my jobs quickly with the confidense that a problem can be eliminated in seconds. The tape measure can also be used to estimate how many rows to install at a time to finish a big room in an equal number of rows per pass as well as gauge the speed of installation.
