Description: Such was the need for fighting knives during WW2 that the US government purchased almost the entire production of most American cutlery companies. The Pal Cutlery Co. of Plattsburgh, NY produced a sturdy 6" blade fighting knife known as the RH-36 that was widely carried by US troops overseas. This US Army USMC Marine WW2 PAL RH-36 FIGHTING KNIFE is in good condition, with some light rounding to the blade tip, some sharpening and scattered nicking to the blade edge, some cleaning, scratching, grinding, pitting, and spot patina at each side of the blade, some patina and brown adhesive to the guard, moderate scratching to the handle, some deep chipping to the lower spine of the handle, some nicking, pitting, and patina to the pommel, and with some overall age wear evident (ALL pictured). Otherwise, the knife is in fine shape, with no other damage. Most interestingly, it features a 6 1/8" bright fullered clip point bowie blade, sports the classic stacked leather washer handle, and is stamped at the ricasso with its maker and model, "PAL / RH-36 / MADE IN U.S.A.". It boasts an elliptical steel guard and a cast aluminum pommel, and is complete with the original US WW2 PAL RH-36 Brown Leather Scabbard in fair condition, with some downward bending and missing stitching to the end tip, the letter "F" hand carved in large "bubble" font at the upper front body, heavy scratching and surface tearing to the back body, moderate patina to the metal rivets, and with moderate overall drying, darkening, and age wear evident (ALL pictured). Otherwise, the scabbard is in fair shape, with no other damage. Most interestingly, it bears a fully intact darkened brass "glove" snap closure leather handle retention strap that has been folded backward around the upper belt hanger and snap closed, a process frequently done in the field to allow the knife to be drawn more quickly, carries the original metal rivets and most of the brownish cotton stitching down the sides, and the set is a fine example of a rare, original US Army USMC Marine WW2 PAL RH-36 FIGHTING KNIFE.
