CHINESE 100% HAND PAINTED COBALT BLUE DECORATED OPEN SALT CELLAR NUT DISH This a beautiful and unusual little round individual nut dish or open salt cellar in a “cereal bowl” shape. It is 100% hand-painted with cobalt blue “flo blue” style decoration along with some coral and turquoise colors as well. It is finished off with hand painted gold trim to the rim. What really makes this piece unusual for me are the little “almond-shaped” cuts that the artist made to the porcelain on the exterior of the bowl; these allow light to show through to the interior the bowl when you hold the piece up to the light. Very neat! Please be sure to read the “Age and Condition” paragraphs below. Please note: There are faint “spots” showing in the photos, at least on my computer; these are from my camera and they are not on the piece. Really an attractive and unusual little piece! I am gradually selling my salt cellar and individual nut dish collection that at one time was over 1,800 pieces. This piece had been in my collection since 1983. I see a piece that appears to me to be a similar size and shape to this one pictured in the book 5,000 Open Salts by William Heacock & Patricia Johnson as Photo # 1876. I do my best to describe all items as accurately as possible and to the best of my ability. Some of my photos may be somewhat lighter or darker than actual to better show detail or color. Age and Condition The item is probably circa 1925. It is in excellent no near mint condition. Please look closely at the photos as they are an important part of my description of this item. There are no chips, flea bites, cracks, hairlines or repairs to the porcelain. The gold decoration on the rim shows some extremely slight wear - see the photos. A beautiful and unusual little piece! It rings like a bell when I tap it with my ring. Please keep in mind the photos may be blown up at least 8-10 times normal, so anything you see will look 8-10 times larger in the photos than it really is. Please note: if you see a dark spot in the photos it is from my camera and is not a mark on the piece. It will be either just to the right of center towards the bottom or slightly above center on the right side of the photo.
