This pump is a great replacement for mechanical pumps on many industrial, commercial, agricultural, genset, and transportation applications. Mechanical pumps have the disadvantage of potentially contaminating the engine's crankcase with diesel fuel when they fail which can lead to engine damage. In some cases replacement mechanical pumps may be unavailable or excessively expensive. Because they do not require cranking the engine to run the pump, electric pumps have the advantage of easing the fuel system bleeding process when an engine runs out of fuel or is open for service.
