Thanks!History This is a beautiful Pyrophyllite specimen from the famous Silver Ridge location, Randolph County, NC. USA. These radiating crystal are all natural and rarely occur in this quality. Pyrophyllite is a high alumina mineral that, in North Carolina, occurs exclusively within hydrothermally altered felsic volcanic rocks of the Carolina Slate belt. The mineral was first mined commercially in North Carolina in 1855 and has been mined almost continuously since that time. Birthstone There are no official zodiac sign for this mineral. MineralogyPyrophyllite is a phyllosilicate mineral composed of aluminum silicate hydroxide. It occurs in two forms crystalline folia and compact masses. The folia have a pronounced pearly luster, owing to the presence of a perfect cleavage parallel to their surfaces: they are flexible but not elastic, and are usually arranged radially in fan-like or spherical groups. This variety, when heated, exfoliates and swells up to many times its original volume, hence the name pyrophyllite, from the Greek pyro- ( fire) and phyllos (a leaf), given by R. Herman in 1829. The color of both varieties is white, pale green, greyish or yellowish and are greasy to the touch. Crystal Structure: Compact spherulitic aggregates of needlelike radiating crystals; as fine grained foliated laminae, granular, massive Hardness: very soft (hardness of 1.0 to 1.5) Transparency: Translucent to opaque Chemical Composition: Al2Si4O10(OH)2 MetaphysicalPyrophyllite activates and links your solar plexus and sacral chakras together. Its power can help to raise your creative and sexual vibrations, while also strengthening your confidence. This mineral is perfect for anyone who is suffering from low self-esteem, depression and sadness. Pyrophyllite has been known to light a “fire” within that will warm you to the core while helping you to feel more positive emotions. It will push you to take a stand against the weight you carry daily and give you the strength to fight back against the resistance that continuously holds you back. Pyrophyllite is a “creator’s stone” that will provide focus, strength, and vitality for you to achieve your deepest dreams. Feng Shui There are know known feng shui properties noted.
