With TaylorMade's improved Dual Crown Technology, paired with power base weighting, the 2009 Burner B has a lower CG for a higher launch angle, and lower spin for more distance. The combination of TaylorMade's Inverted Cone and SuperFast Technologies give this driver an extremely high MOI and promotes faster swing speed for added distance and forgiveness on mishits.Dual crown and weighted power-base promote increased carry and distance. Like everything else in my life I couldn’t make a decision right away (I am not exactly the biggest risk taker) so I kept coming back to try the clubs over a three month span. Every time I went back to try the drivers I kept gravitating towards to the same two clubs, the Taylormade Burner and the Ping Rhapsody. Overall the Burner just gave me more distance, better accuracy, and better consistency time and time again. So the decision was made the burner was purchased and I never looked back, until now.-Next generation Dual Crown Technology incorporates a dual crown and large powerbase to lower CG in the clubhead, and promote high launch and low spin for more distance-Super-stable, high-MOI head design, combined with Inverted Cone Technology promotes more forgiveness and more consistent distance on off-center hits-SuperFast Technology includes a 49g shaft measuring 47 inches and promotes explosive swing speed, faster ball speed and added distanceWhen the 2009 Burner B fairway wood arrived I was looking forward to testing it out, but there was definitely one thing that was making me a little nervous, the shaft length. As noted above the shaft of the ’09 Burner is 44 inches, which according to Taylormade promotes explosive swing speed, faster ball speed and added distance. I like the way that sounds, but my concern was whether or not I could control the club with such a long shaft, especially because I am only 5’8" The club was practically as tall as me, but I promised I would review it and so I took it to the course.I warmed up at the range with a small bucket of balls starting with my shorter clubs and working my way up to the wood. I started with my old ’07 Burner and without fail I was nailing every shot. Then I pulled the ’09 Burner out of my bag and set up. I think my nerves of the long shaft got to me and I shanked the first shot so far to the right I almost hit the clubhouse, oops! I set up another ball, took a deep breath, took my stance and swung away. I couldn’t believe what had happened, I just hit the ball dead straight and 20 yards past my ’07 Burner. I hit the ball again and again and again and every time it was straight and 20 yards past anything I had hit with the ’07 Burner. It appears the unthinkable has happened, I may have just found the replacement to my old 3 wood. Before I could make this very serious decision I had to take the 2009 Taylormade Burner to the course and test it out for a few rounds. The results were exactly the same, straight down the fairway with an average of 9 out of 14 times and the other 5 were just barely missing the fairway and rolling into the rough.I am not going to say that this club is the end all be all of woods, or that it is going to be a miracle worker for everyone’s game. However, for me, there is no other wood that will even go near my golf bag except the 2009 Taylormade Burner. I will continue to test new clubs and see if they can compete, but as of right now I can’t imagine anything will even come close.The 2009 Taylormade Burner Fairway Wood is available for right and left handed players. The club has a 60 degree lie angle and a deep face height and a large address area allowing for tremendous forgiveness.In my opinion this is one of the most forgiving clubs on the market and is a must try for high handicap players. I also love the look of the driver at address. I have tested some other woods that I felt were too distracting or colorful at setup but the Burner has a slight design that works for me, and when I look down at that club I get an instant sense of confidence. Featuring a crown that is smaller than the sole helps to lower the center of gravity to make it easier to launch the ball higher with less spin. What does this technology mean to you? More distance, baby!The Burner fairway woods also boast what TaylorMade calls “Ultra-Thin Wall technology” meaning the walls of the clubhead is a measly .55 millimeters, making them easier to generate some serious clubhead speed.The last feature is a “fast-looking” triangular head shape that due to its larger size should help to give you more confidence when addressing the ball and also provides more forgiveness, which is something we could all use a bit more of. The Burner Tour Launch has a more compact head shape and the center of gravity (CG) location that is a bit more forward than the High Launch.Generating more swing speed is what is needed for more distance and both Burner fairway woods incorporate TaylorMade’s SuperFast technology to help with that. The Burner High Launch comes standard with a SuperFast 49-gram graphite shaft (available in Senior, Regular and Stiff flex) while the Burner Tour Launch comes with a 70-gram graphite shaft (available in Regular, Stiff and X-Stiff flex). Lightweight shafts in addition to the thin walls should help nicely in your quest for some additional distance.Burner Rescue HybridsNot to be left out in all this Burner madness, two new hybrids are available as well. The Burner Rescue High Launch, which was designed to help make it easier for golfers with average swing speeds to launch the ball on a “towering, long-carrying flight” and the Burner Rescue Tour Launch, which is designed for the better player in mind with a higher swing speed and has a lower, penetrating and workable ball flight.Just like the rest of the Burner line, the Burner Rescue High Launch and Burner Rescue Tour Launch hybrids share the same key performance elements such as Dual Crown technology as well as a “fast-looking triangular Burner head shape” that allows the center-of-gravity (CG) location to be lower and deeper which helps make both the High Launch and Tour Launch easier hit the ball high and long.There are a few differences between the two. The High Launch has a shallower clubface to help get more spin to keep the ball up longer in the air or more distance and has a draw bias to help eliminate (or lessen) the banana ball while the Tour Launch’s CG is closer to the clubface than the High Launch, which gives it a lower ball flight and more workability for the better players.The Burner Rescue Tour Launch was designed with input from tour pros with a slightly taller face profile and larger toe area and has a slight fade bias to help prevent a hook (hey, that’s what I’ve been looking for!)Both hybrids have TaylorMade’s SuperFast technology that help promote faster swing speeds to give you more distance. The Burner High Launch comes with a SuperFast 60-gram graphite shaft in Senior, Regular and Stiff flex as well as a RE-AX 85-gram steel shaft in Regular and Stiff flex while the Burner Tour Launch comes with an 85-gram graphite shaft in Regular, Stiff and X-Stiff flex.It appears, at least at the present time, that TaylorMade is moving a bit away from the moveable weight technology that had made up a great deal of their woods and hybrids line of the past several years and offering several categories of products for various caliber of golfers under the Burner name.I’m still a bit unsure of the triangular shape of the Tour Burner driver but I must say that I like the looks of the Burner Rescues and Burner Fairways and will have to give them a try during my next trip to my favorite golf shop.
