It extends theoretical understandings of the concept and highlights its promises and challenges. Using a Transformative Action Research design, six empirically grounded ethnographic case studies describe how translanguaging is used in lesson designs and in the spontaneous moves made by teachers and students during specific teaching moments. The cases shed light on two questions: How, when, and why is translanguaging taken up or resisted by students and teachers? What does its use mean for them? Although grounded in a U.S. context, and specifically in classrooms in New York State, Translanguaging with Multilingual Students links findings and theories to different global contexts to offer important lessons for educators worldwide. The core of the volume demonstrates how translanguaging is put into practice in actual classroom settings. Applying a transformative action research design in several case studies, the authors show how the concept of translanguaging can transform theory, policy, and practice of education in general and bilingual education in particular."-- TESOL QUARTERLY Vol. 51, No. 4, December 2017 Review Quote "Garcia and Kleyn Details ISBN1138906972 Short Title TRANSLANGUAGING W/MULTILINGUAL Language English ISBN-10 1138906972 ISBN-13 9781138906976 Media Book Format Hardcover Imprint Routledge Subtitle Learning from Classroom Moments Place of Publication London Country of Publication United Kingdom Edited by Ofelia García Year 2016 DEWEY 370.1175 AU Release Date 2016-06-27 NZ Release Date 2016-06-27 Publication Date 2016-06-27 UK Release Date 2016-06-27 Author Ofelia García Illustrations 4 Tables, black and white; 3 Line drawings, black and white; 14 Halftones, black and white Pages 236 Publisher Taylor & Francis Ltd Alternative 9781138906983 Audience Professional & Vocational We've got this At The Nile, if you're looking for it, we've got it.
