Description: Recipes for a wide range of rum drinks and foods from China and the South Seas are accompanied by the author's witty commentaries. This is a book written after WWII and the former service-men that served in the Pacific had a taste for the Polynesian island life. Trader Vic catered to those tastes and was involved in the "Tiki" bar scene. This book has numerous cocktails (mainly using rum) that I have not seen in other vintage cocktail manuals from around the same period. There are also food recipes and advice on hosting a party. The author is engaging and tells some fun little stories. A neat window into a lost period of time. This is THE book to have for anyone thinking about a retro-south seas type party. This is a real collectors item for anyone who loves cookbooks. Vic's style is a little rough (language-wise anyway), the advice is sound and timeless. This little glimpse into post-war Americana is excellent in all respects.
