Description: Tom Baril is an American photographer born in Connecticut in 1952. He earned his BFA in photography from the School of Visual Arts in New York City in 1980. Early in his career, he gained recognition for his work as the master printer for the renowned photographer Robert Mapplethorpe, significantly contributing to the quality of Mapplethorpe’s black and white prints. Baril’s work has been widely exhibited and is held in numerous prestigious collections. Over the years, his photographs have been shown in galleries such as the Robert Koch Gallery, Vision Gallery, Bonni Benrubi Gallery, and Catherine Edelman Gallery. His pieces are noted for their tonal beauty and technical precision, often produced as toned gelatin silver prints or pigment prints.
