A rare signature from the two actors! Autograph note signed: "For Violet/my sincere best/wishes always/Tom Neal", "To Violet/Oscar Homolka", 5¼x3¾. THOMAS NEAL (1914-1972) was a successful amateur boxer (44-3, with 41 knockouts) with a law degree from Harvard. He made his first film in 1938, and had a prominent role assisting Frances Gifford in the 15-part Republic Pictures serial Jungle Girl (1941). His most memorable role, however, was opposite Ann Savage in the film noir Detour (1945). In 1951, Neal seriously injured actor Franchot Tone in a fight over girlfriend Barbara Payton, who married Tone but left him after seven weeks to return to Neal. Neal's acting opportunities dried up after these fisticuffs, and he supported himself as a gardener and landscaper. In 1961 he shot his third wife, Gale Bennett, in the back of the head. Prosecutors sought the death penalty, but Neal got off with involuntary manslaughter, serving 6 years until shortly before his death. OSCAR HOMOLKA (1898-1978) began in German films of the late 1920s, but moved first to England and then to the US after Hitler came to power. Because of his features and Viennese accent, he was often cast as a heavy (Hitchcock's Sabotage, 1936; Funeral in Berlin, 1966). Homolka was nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his performance in I Remember Mama (1948). Fine condition.
