Description: "Thirty Letters on Various Subjects," in two volumes, both contained in this book. No author's name on the title page, but known to have been written by William Jackson. Printed in 1783 for T. Cadell and T. Evans, in the Strand; and B. Thorn and Son, in Exeter. With marbled boards and leather on the spine and corners. The front and back hinges are cracked, but binding is tight and all pages are intact. There is browning around the corners of the endleaves, caused by long contact with the leather, plus a little bit of writing on the front endleaf, but otherwise the book is clean and unmarked inside and out. There is a bookplate on the left-front endleaf, indicating that this was once part of the private library of Joseph Swift Whistler. The text is clean and unmarked throughout. These are elegant, general-interest essays, with titles like "On Riches, Cards, and Duelling," "On Musical Expression," "On Shakespeare," "Obstructions in the Way of Fame," and "A False Principle in Painting Exposed." Vol. 1 has 124 pages; Vol. 2 has 120. I pack carefully and ship promptly, free via USPS Media Mail.
