Description: Marks and age: On the reverse of this lovely large meat or turkey platter is backstamp number 34 of Theodore Haviland, one of the great Limoges firms at the turn of the last century. It was in use between 1904 and the mid-1920s. Source: Third edition of the Collector's Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain by Mary Frank Gaston. Age: The platter is on Haviland's simple and classically elegant Touraine blank, which the company used from the 1920s through the 1950s. Source: Haviland: A Pattern Identification Guide by Bob Page, Dale Frederiksen and Dean Six. That means this platter was produced in the early to mid-1920s, the only time when the two marks overlap. Design: In keeping with the exceptionally high quality that made the company's porcelain so famous and so coveted, the platter is finely hand painted with delicate pink roses and trimmed in gold. It has two wells. The pattern is called Schleiger 625A. Many of the great Limoges companies produced variations of the classic and hugely popular pattern of pink roses against a pure white background. That means this platter would easily blend into similar sets by many other Limoges makers. And of course, it would make an impressive display on its own. Size: The large platter is 18 inches long and 14 1/8 inches wide. It's 1 5/8 inches tall and weighs an impressive 5 pounds 9 ounces. Condition: It's in excellent condition with no nicks, chips, cracks, repairs, scratches, stains or crazing, with just a few faint utensil marks that can be seen in bright light. Please check all the photos very carefully - they are an important part of the description.
