Description: Maker: On the reverse of this lovely large serving platter is mark number 34 of the Theodore Haviland company, one of the great Limoges firms at the turn of the last century. This mark was in use between 1904 and 1925. Source: third edition of the Collector's Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain by Mary Frank Gaston. Design: The pattern is called Marie. It's on Haviland's blank number 118. The platter is beautifully hand painted with tiny pink roses and delicate blue bows in keeping with the exceptionally high quality that made the company's porcelain so famous and so coveted. Sculpted gold-trimmed handles add an additional touch of distinction. Many of the great Limoges companies produced variations of the classic and hugely popular pattern of delicate pink roses against a pure white background. That means this platter would easily blend into similar sets by many other Limoges makers. And of course, it would make a beautiful display on its own or as part of any collection of fine china. Condition: It's in excellent condition with no marks, nicks, cracks, stains, discoloration, repairs, crazing or significant wear. There are a few faint utensil marks that can be seen in bright light and several tiny dark embedded spots that were created in the manufacturing process. Size: The platter is 16 1/2 inches long, 12 inches wide and 1 3/8 inches tall. It weighs 3 pounds 2 ounces.
