Description: William Hogarth lived from 1697 to 1764. He was a painter, engraver, and satirist. This thick folio is a compilation of his works in fine steel engravings. 12 x 9.5 x 2.5 inches. It also contains a worthy introduction to his life. This is a well-preserved antiquarian tome, comprising an extensive collection of his engravings. His work ranged from excellent realistic portraiture to comic strip-like series of pictures called "modern moral subjects." Much of his work, vicious at times, poked fun at contemporary politics and customs. Bound in publisher's original half-leather, with gilt-ruled boards and blind-tooling and gilt-stamped spine, with gilt-stamped portrait of Hogarth to the front board.
