Description: The United States First Day Cover Society, once headquartered in Cheyenne, WY, as a collaboration between Fleetwood and Unicover Printing Company, provided First Day Covers to members on a subscription basis. Fleetwood and Unicover ceased operations in 2007, and the Society was officially adjourned. This collection, issued September 4, 1986, features US stamps that tell the inspiring story of America's history. They commemorate people like Albert Einstein and Martin Luther King, Jr. , and celebrate events like the Revolutionary War and Independence Day. They also honor wildlife, flowers, trees and minerals, and showcase crafts and traditions. 50 different 22-cent First Day Covers bear the First Day of Issue postmark from the locale that matches the stamp subject. For example The Alaskan Dog Sled stamp bears the postmark from Anchorage, Alaska, and the Statue of Liberty stamp bears the postmark from Liberty Island, New York. Each of the First Day Covers are protected in a plastic sleeve. The blue vinyl album cover is stamped with the United States First Day Cover Society logo. Since the original organization is no longer in existence, the collection is a limited edition and will never be duplicated or issued again. An additional strip of ten 22-cent First Day Covers is included. Artist Erik Nitsche created the stamps to complement the U.S. Postal Service's Special Occasions Messages Booklets available to patrons in 1986. Also included are 4 additional 22-cent First Day Covers with the First Day of Issue postmark dated April 28, 1987, May 9, 1987, May 23, 1987, and three 14-cent postcards with the First Day of issue postmark dated May 22, 1987, May 25, 1987, and June 14, 1987.A single envelope from the Bureau of Public Debt has an "Official Mail USA" 22-cent stamp printed in the upper right-hand corner and has the First Day of Issue stamp. These are loose and not in protective plastic sleeves. The collection is in mint condition. Certificate of membership in first plastic sleeve signed by Society President, James A Helzer, and Chairman, W. Perry Dray.
