Description: Spanish School: Description 'The Throne of Grace' with God the Father and the Virgin attending the crucified Christ oil on canvas laid on panel 64 x 56 ½ ins. This appears to be by a provincial hand and painted as a devotional object. late 17th or early 18th century Although not dated it shows the full influence of great late Baroque artworks produced in Spanish workshops. It depicts an exhausted, bleeding, recumbent Christ contemplated by God the Father, while the Virgin barely peeps out from the right side. The canvas, which has survived to the present day in excellent condition, has been glued to a piece of cardboard to give rigidity to the work. While the old and sober original black frame has been added with one of French moldings in gold, which gives prestige to the work. Allow 30 days for handling & shipping.
