Description: The Pines of LoryJ.A. MitchellLife Publishing Company1901 John Ames Mitchell was an American author, publisher, and editor. He is most famous for co-founding Life Magazine in 1883. He also wrote several novels, including The Pines of Lory. This is the first edition of The Pines of Lory from 1901. It features a green textured cover and spine with gold lettering. The front cover has a circular inset with black trees on a gold background. There is also a black pine tree on the spine. The book is illustrated throughout with decorations by Albert D. Blashfield. The Pines of Lory is a romance novel telling the story of Patrick Boyd and Elinor Marshall and their passionate love affair that unfolds as they get separated from the crew piloting their ship up the St. Lawrence River. There are 230 rough cut pages. The book is in good antique condition for its age and use. The covers have some wear to the corners and edges. The fabric of the spine has bubbled somewhat. The front cover has begun to separate from the spine. I think Madlyn N Pinney wrote her name in pencil in the front cover, but her signature is difficult to read. The pages have yellowed. The edges of the rough cut pages are worn. The back cover is also starting to separate. There is a blue stamp in the back upper inner corner of the back cover - UKA / P.ES. The book measures 8 inches by 5.5 inches. It is 1.25 inches thick.
