Description: The Gods & Other Men. The Myths of Male AttractionDawn-Eve Press (2006)pb, 193pp. Author: Edward Maupin was an early contributor to the Esalen Institute of Big Sur, California. This is an important contribution to the sociology of male attraction, with an emphasis on classical authors and their views of attraction, especially male-to-male attraction. Maupin is a psychologist with a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan in 1962 with a dissertation on Zen Buddhist meditation. Additionally, Maupin studied Rolf Structural Integration with Dr. Ida Rolf in 1968-9. The book is published in a style reminiscent of early 20th Century Arts & Crafts style typography and paper binding. The paper is high rag content. The paper covers have creasing along three sides, as is normal for this arts style of binding. This is copy #18 of 108. Given Dr. Maupin's studies in Buddhism, the buyer may see an insider's joke as the edition is limited to the sacred Buddhist number of 108. This collectible item is a rare find for students of Esalen and an unusual academic approach to male attraction and gay studies.
