After Seller of Loves by Carlo Nolli, an engraving in Le Antichita di Ercolano(1762). Joseph-Marie Vien painted this painting in 1763. According to Getty Museum, "The Cupid Seller was reproduced in a engraving by Jacques Firmin Beauvarlet. It was not a copy but rather a re-creation intended to update to the ancient original for the taste of 18th-century Paris. ". The setting in the painting gives an impression of a Neoclassical salon, and the figures adopt contemporary pose and gestures, the Cupid;s is clearly obscene. (The J.
