Description: Tender is the Night by F. Scott Fitzgerald First printing in an original first issue dust jacket Publisher and Year: New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1934. -Edition: First edition, first printing ("A" on the copyright page). The original first issue dust jacket retains the price of $2.50 and three blurbs on the front flap by Eliot, Mencken, and Rosenfeld (the second issue jacket had blurbs from different reviewers). Bibliographic reference: Bruccoli A15.I.a.-Condition and Description: Octavo in publisher's dark green, textured cloth. Hinges and binding sturdy. Very slight spine lean. A touch of foxing on the edges of the text block; interior clean. Boards with occasional spotting, especially at the lower left portion of the front board. Spine a touch faded, but gilt bright. No writing or underlining. The original dust jacket is in uncommonly good condition with absolutely no restoration at all. Spine lightly faded, as usual. A little splitting at the jacket folds. Altogether an exemplary example of this American classic. Comes in a custom morocco clamshell case made by the famous H & H Bindery that mimics the jacket design (handmade at a cost of $1,500).-“One writes of scars healed, a loose parallel to the pathology of the skin, but there is no such thing in the life of an individual. There are open wounds, shrunk sometimes to the size of a pin-prick but wounds still. The marks of suffering are more comparable to the loss of a finger, or of the sight of an eye. We may not miss them, either, for one minute in a year, but if we should there is nothing to be done about it.” - F. Scott Fitzgerald, Tender is the Night-Inventory ID: 887 - 576 - 412 - 979 - 131
