Did not test the recording function as I do not have a blank tape to use. The cassette player makes a noise when when you power it on. However when listening to a cassette or while using the cassette functions, you do not hear the noise. The noise stops when you power it off. It does have some blemishes which is to be expected for it's age. Please look closely at the pictures as they are part of the description SN RL 035337 Please know that I use new and recycled materials for packaging and it may smell a bit musty from being stored.
