Some familiar names include Black Bat Flower, Cat's Whiskers, and Devil Flower. It grows wild in valleys and forests along rivers. Studies were done to find out what pollinates them. After the studies, the conclusion was that the Bat plants are self-pollinating. Tacca's can be grown into containers and kept inside for the winter months. It can grow to 3 feet high and 4 feet wide. They are in bloom from late spring until early fall. The flowers grow as big as a foot wide, looking like a bat with long whiskers that hang down almost 30 inches. They have large beautiful leaves that are a few feet wide and long. They prefer lots of water, and a shady spot with high humidity is ideal.
