Sizes can vary as each basket is unique and hand woven.Coiled baskets are crafted from one continuous strand of Sweetgrass and bundles of bulrush sewn together in a spiral. Palmetto leaves are tightly wound around the coils of Sweetgrass which is difficult and often cut the worker's hands. Each basket tray has the unique touch of the artisan who made it. There are no two alike. Grains of raw rice were placed in a fanner and tossed into the air. After the wind blew away the chaff, the rice was ready for cooking. Fanners were also used to carry food and even to cradle babies while their mothers worked in the fields during plantation days. The original brochure comes with this basket.
