Description: Suzuki Harunobu (1724-1770)Asakusa no seiran (Clearing sky, Asakusa), from the series Furyu Edo hakkei (Eight fashionable views of Edo)Date uncertain. Ofuji and a young samurai seated on a platform, smoking pipes, at the toothpick shop Yanagiya, signed Suzuki Harunobu ga. Chuban size. This seems to be a later printing from recarved blocks, though it comes from the collection of the artist Philip Pearlstein, who had many authentic woodblocks from this period. I have priced the print accordingly with that uncertainty in mind--an original impression of this print sold for $6,600 at Christies in 2005. Very fine condition. Hinged to backing board and mat window. Tear in upper left corner, where the hinge was.
