Description: MAGNIFICENT !!! Antique Austrian Royal Vienna Style Large Porcelain Round Lidded Dresser Box with Classical Portrait Scene, late 19th century by Ernst Wahliss. Portrait has very fine details depicting a beautiful young woman with long brownish hair awearing tiara made from flower branches and the leafs. Marked on the bottom with a red crown over a shield with TURN and E.W Vienna inside and Austria underneath and also hand painted numbers 132 .This mark was used by Ernst Wahliss between 1899 and 1918. The background of the box hand painted in forest green enamel color and gilded with bright gold inside the leeds and delicate gold geometrical border on upper part of the bottom part of the box. Box in excellent condition . Due to the age has some wear to the gilding and on the edge and very small flake to the edge of the bottom stand rim,few spots of tiny pitting. Also known for his small-scale sculptures, the artist often depicted Baroque-era women dressed in opulent clothing. Born on March 1, 1837 in Oschatz in the Kingdom of Saxony, Wahliss began his pottery career as the traveling salesman for a porcelain factory at age 30. He later left to found his own ceramics. company, and soon began exporting porcelain goods across Europe. To meet the high demand for his pottery and sculptures, the artist opened his own department store, Wahliss, in Viennas city center. His works can be found in the collections of the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences in Sydney, the Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh, and the museum. Please, ask the questions before buying.
