Description: PLEASE NOTE: I am selling a number of watches and parts from several collections I acquired. They are in various conditions and all are being sold 'AS IS', including this Stunning Original Gallet Multichron 30M Clamshell WWII Era Chronograph Serviced! , so please read my descriptions carefully before bidding or buying. I will attempt to be as accurate as possible and I also package very well, but watches are somewhat delicate by nature, so please ask questions if you're not sure what you are buying. Also, please read my feedback and note that my BIN prices are usually under the selling point at end of auctions... this watch will look better in your hand than it does in the pics. Easily THE most collectable Gallet wristwatch, this one is completely original, except the acrylic crystal. That said, I will also provide the original, lip edged crystal, which is intact and has no breaches, but rather than buff it [it is slightly yellowed, but still quite serviceable], I fitted it with an OK fitting new crystal, for appearances sake and to allow the dial to show better in the pictures. That said, this fine example of the world's first 'waterproof' chronograph [see ad picture] is not currently waterproof, but if that's your wish, I'm sure you could find someone to replace the seals and render it so. The only other thing that is arguably not original might be the crown, but I can't confirm that. Note that, like the original crystal, any scratches on the case [and there aren't many] have also been left, rather than buffed out...and this is a fairly crisp edged case...so the true condition can be seen. The 4 'Clamshell' case screws are original, with excellent threads. Case back is numbered '129765' and shows evidence that it was worn with a one-piece nylon strap for a period, though the rare, equally great condition, stainless steel 'Champion' flex-link bracelet on it now is both period correct and, in this condition, almost as rare. I also can't imagine a better pairing on this watch, purpose-wise. The bracelet is easily and fully adjustable and snap closure is solid. The luminous dial and hands are also unrestored [clearly] and all hands snap back accurately to top position when reset. The watch winds, sets [stem wind/stem set], runs excellent and is keeping good time, as it has been recently serviced. Case diameter is approx. 34.5mm [as the movement, as it's name suggests, is 30mm]. I couldn't really nail down a date on this piece [they were made from 1936-51, I believe], but all indications are it's an early one, from comparing the hands and dial to others online. I've offered this piece at what I feel is a fair market BIN price, for it's condition, but also opened it to offers. If you're not overly familiar with these watches, there's some great history/valuations on both the 'vintagewatchinc' website and on 'galletworld', as well as on Gallet's own site. If you've been waiting for one of these to come along, unmolested, this is it! It's worthy of a top drawer position in a discriminating collection, or even a watch museum....you won't be disappointed!
