Description: This 1886-issued Jefferson postal card is an outreach from BECK & CORBITT IRON CO. in St. Louis, Missouri, to Palmer Lead Co. in Palmer, Missouri, acknowledging the transfer of $23.10. Today Palmer, Missouri is largely an extinct town in Washington County. Beck & Corbitt Iron Company in Saint Louis was founded in 1852. They manufactured and sold myriad iron and steel products, including pipes, metal sheets, chains, gears, drills, bits, pulleys, bolts, screws and so much more. One of their once-state-of-the-art warehouses-- on the block of North 1st & O'Fallon Street in St. Louis-- was destroyed due to a "squatter's fire" on October 25, 2022. Long before that abandoned warehouse went up in flames, the company was acquired in 1981 by Lapham-Hickory Steel Corp. The postal card looks slightly reduced, or shaved, from its original size, now measuring approximately 5.1 x 3 inches. This postal card was postmarked in June of 1892 in St. Louis, MO, and sent to Palmer, Missouri. After the years the postcard may show some typical wear. In the effort to keep our costs down, I tend to trust our postal service and it works out great "99.9%" of the time. Moreover, in my experience "ephemera enthusiasts" are a great community of people who are collaborative and don't take advantage of each other; therefore, I typically do not feel the need to drive up your costs so that I can later prove successful delivery-- I trust you. However, if you want to purchase certified mail services (includes tracking), then please send me a message so that we can make arrangements.I collect, trade, and sell ephemera because it's interesting and fun. If I'm selling something that you'd like to own but you perceive that my asking price is just too high for your taste or budget, then please offer me "a deal I can't refuse." I like it best when everybody gets what they want. Thanks for considering this keepsake.
