(Note: In Post War photos and the listing photo, you can see Misch preparing to sign one of the very photo poses in this set). The photo of Misch guarding the wooden Conference Hut is listed in Misch's book as Illustration #57, "H* Last Witness" by Frontline Books, London, England.***Sgt. Misch is said to be the "last witness" to the German Chancellor's life and the final days of the Third Reich. Misch was selected in 1941 to be the German Chancellor's bodyguard and communications specialist and he personally traveled with the Chancellor across the Reich to his different field headquarters and to Berlin. Toward the end of the War, Misch spent the last 100 days of the Third Reich in the Bunker in Berlin with the Chancellor. In the final days, even after most of the Chancellor's inner circle had fled the Bunker, Misch stayed behind until after the suicide of the Chancellor before he attempted to break out of the Russian lines surrounding Berlin. After the War, Misch explained remaining at his post with the Chancellor as "a matter of duty" and never questioned his loyalty to the Chancellor he fondly called "The Boss". During the breakout, he was captured by the Russians and spent 9 years in a Russian POW Camp before going home. Post War, Misch served as a consultant to several movies such as The Bunker and Valkyrie. Though, he said the movies' writers embellished the drama of the Chancellor's final days, stating that "there was deafening silence as the end approached and not shouting matches as the films portray". Misch died at his home in Berlin in 2013 at the age of 96. In addition to this Reproduced Set of Autographed Photos and the Post War Photo of Misch signing photos, you will also get a courtesy 4 Page Biography on Misch. ***NOTE**** The significance of these Misch Photo poses and autographs can not be over stated and are among the most famous of Misch's Autographed Photo poses as it pictures Misch on duty guarding the Chancellor's Conference Hut days before Col. Stauffenberg's bomb and assassination attempt of the German Chancellor during WW II and during Operation Valkyrie. Had the German Chancellor held his meeting in the concrete bunker (photo pose in your set) as planned, likely, even with one plastic explosive, all in the meeting would have been killed because the concrete walls and ceiling would have contained the bomb blast. However, due to the heat of the day, the meeting was moved at the last moment to the wooden conference hut and as it was, with only the one plastic explosive, the bomb blast was allowed to escape through the windows of the conference hut, sparing the lives of the German Chancellor and most of the participants in the meeting with the exception of 4 officers. Again, these are among the most famous of Misch's autographed photo poses due to that historic event of those days in July 1944 and Misch's presence there just days before. A unique and very historic German WW II Reprinted Photo Set that few people have or will have. This is a GREAT conversation starter which will fascinate everyone.
