Description: Rare historically important dog tag of Utah Battery A quarter master sergeant Harry Augustus Young. Young was the son of Lorenzo Young - brother of Brigham Young. Born in Salt Lake City Utah 1865. Harry attended Utah University and developed an interest in medicine. 1884-85 he participated in a mission to the Northern States. Afterward studying Medicine at Columbia College. He then opened a successful practice in Salt Lake. Next he answered the nations call and was appointed quartermaster sgt in Utah Battery A commanded by the grandson of Brigham Young. Fought in the Spanish American War with distinction as basically a medic and later in the Philippine Insurrection as a 1st Lt, assistant surgeon. 2 days before he would have became a full surgeon he was KIA during the Tagalan outbreak 2/6/99. Late 1898 / early 1899 he had this dog tag fashioned from a Spanish silver 50 centavo. Beautifully rendered with rarely engraved both sides. A rare dog tag and historically important artifact of a Mormon Church of Latter Day Saints hero with interesting lineage. Beautiful patina, excellent condition.
