Description: Fresh-made Active Dry Sourdough Starter, Easy Instructions Incl, Not your grandma's & not 100 years old! Rye/Spelt/White. This dry, active Sourdough Starter is beautifully active. It's not 120 years old, or 150 and it didn't come from your Grandma or any special country. I made it myself and it is very delicious and very happy. Even the worst baked loaves with this starter are edible... So let me tell you a little bit about some of the science behind sourdough. Did you know San Fransisco Sourdough does NOT mean it came from San Francisco? That's just marketing. Sourdough is a way of making leavened bread that has been practiced by humanity for as long as we've been growing grains. Sourdough baked by home bakers contains bacteria and yeasts, which give the bread its classic sour taste. One of those lactic acid bacteria is called Fructilactobacillus sanfranciscensis. That's a whole mouthful. This lactic acid bacteria is the dominant strain in most home sourdough starters around the world and that is why people call it "San Francisco Sourdough". The reason this lactic acid bacteria is named so, is because San Francisco is where it was it was found, but it is also the dominant bacteria in sourdoughs globally. So, back to why you need this; I grew up on bread. I am Dutch, a fact that is repeated ad nauseum in some of my listings, and bread fueled my daily breakfasts and lunches through my childhood as I biked to elementary and then junior and senior high school in the Netherlands - in the wind and rain, still traumatized! Anyway, I love bread. I think you like bread too if you're still reading this. Sourdough is the easiest, tastiest AND cheapest way of baking your own bread at home. ***You will receive a food-grade plastic resealable pouch with 1 measured table spoon / 10-13grams of dehydrated sourdough starter. ****As of August, 2023 I now offer a larger 2 table spoon / 20-26gram packet as well. I will include no-nonsense directions on how to get it going and the easiest Sourdough bread recipe on the planet to get started. Even if you end up making a SourDoh flop, it will most likely still taste good... thats the beautiful nature of sourdough baking. There will be no fancy words, no resting, no tucking and nipping and folding and other exhausting and convoluted bread making ways. Yes those methods are delicious, but do you have time for that? I don't! But I still like bread! So you will receive my no BS recipe for easy bread making. A little more on Sourdough; sourdough is a happy fermentation of yeasts and bacteria. Sourdough Starter takes on the local environment of wherever it lives, we are walking and breaking vessels of yeasts and bacteria... our homes and hands and environment contain yeasts and bacteria. The sourdough starter you will receive from me will quickly transform in a culture reflective of all the little beneficial bugs in your own home. Buying a mature starter helps you get a bit of a short cut in getting going... after that as you feed and use it, the starter is continually renewed and after a few weeks, none of the original bacteria remain, like the skin on your body... There is really no such thing as a starter that's a 100 years old. I offer three options; Regular White, Regular Rye and Organic Spelt starters. I recommend the Rye starter and using organic or regular untreated rye flour to feed your starter. In my environment, it seems to prefer Rye!
