Description: **US Federal Laws and Regulations prevents this item from being returned if it is used As I was doing routine maintenance on my CatGenie, I noticed most of the bad odor was coming from the scooping and pumping cycle, so I designed the Smell Shield Splash Guard to eliminate most of the odor that cycle created! Please note that if cat feces remains within the plastic pellets after the scoop cycle, the CatGenie will produce an unpleasant odor during the drying cycle. In order to properly pump all of the solids out of the CatGenie, there is a crusher which crushes all of the nasty solids! The crusher is not gentle! Until the solids are small enough to fit through the output tube, the solids bounce around like popcorn inside the waste container! That bouncing creates a massive splash back of liquid/solid waste and the water the waste was sitting in! Splash back is where a portion of the smell comes from, so the Smell Shield Splash Guard is designed to prevent splashing from ever climbing up the neck of the waste basket - where the odor can escape! On a stock CatGenie, as the solids are being crushed, microscopic waste particles are escaping through waste basket entrance and diffusing in to the ambient air because the opening is so large! Without a high powered active fan blowing around the CatGenie, this smell can linger for 20+ minutes after the cleaning cycle is complete! Yuck! The Smell Shield Splash Guard is designed to reduce this odor by making the entrance to the waste basket smaller! Due to the angled waste basket entrance, when the waste is being crushed, the microscopic particles produced are stopped by hitting the rear of the Smell Shield Splash Guard or the angle waste basket entrance, so they cannot diffuse into the air you breath! The Smell Shield Splash Guard can be delivered in any color, however black is the standard, and if another color is desired, a surcharge and a 2+ day delay in ship time could incur. Testing of the product occurred over a 14 day period, in a household with 1 pet, where some days the CatGenie was explicitly NOT cleaned in order to have extra feces inside the CatGenie. In 8 out of the 10 days the CatGenie was cleaned, the smell from the scooping/pumping cycle was removed entirely. (2) The Smell Shield is not designed to remove odor from the drying cycle. If the soap being used in your CatGenie is refilled and does not contain a strong scent, there is a chance the drying cycle can still produce an odor.
