Description: This small Makah Nootka cedar bark basket from the 1930's was make to be used. Perhaps it held sewing notions or special spices or herbs. It was not meant to be decorative. It is tightly woven of narrow strips of cedar bark lashed together with bear grass. It is very clean and sturdy and the weaving is still tight. It is primitive and it makes me wonder if it might have been made by a child who is just learning to weave. Perhaps it was made as a gift to a mother or grandmother. It is 9.5" long x 3" high x 4" wide.
