Description: An early 20th century abalone handled nail file was mated to a solid brass miniature dollhouse candlestick to make this jaw-dropping beauty of a pipe tamper. A smaller version of my costliest Large Abalone tamper...but no less stunning. These abalone mother of pearl nail files were a popular tourist souvenir in the 20's and 30's. I often come across them with the name of some mediocre tourist attraction hand inked across one face...I guess an abalone keepsake from the world's largest ball of string or a moderately sized waterfall made sense in those days. Anyway, now they are mostly gone or hidden in boxes and junk drawers at everyone's grandparents house. But when thoughtfully repurposed...holy crap do they make a stunning pipe smoking tool. These photos just don't do justice. You will have to hold it up in the sunlight when you first unwrap it, to fully understand. Still gets me every time! This is a small tamper so make note of the ruler photos before purchasing. Thanks for looking... ...
