Description: "Slouching Towards Bethlehem" by Joan Didion (Scarce) First Edition, stated 1st Printing, 1968 Condition: Very Good/Very Good Binding is square and firm, titles on spine have retained their luster. Bottom of spine is sunned, bottoms and top of boards are tanned, Top of text block has some very light and faint spotting with ink faded. No markings or writing throughout text. DJ has wear at top and bottom of spine with some chipping, more at top than bottom, light creasing and wear to corners, edges and along spine, 1/2 inch closed tear at top front cover in the N in Joan. Light smudging to jacket along contours of book, inside flap is price clipped. More photos available on request. DJ protected in archival mylar cover. An attractive copy of a scarce book! Description: Joan's scarce second book is a collection of essays and the title piece was written as an assignment for The Saturday Evening Post in 1967. In the preface Didion writes, "I went to San Francisco because I had not been able to work in some months, had been paralyzed by the conviction that writing was an irrelevant act, that the world as I had understood it no longer existed. If I was to work again at all, it would be necessary for me to come to terms with disorder." RIP Joan
