Description: Wow!!! We do not even know where to begin with this treasure trove of genealogical record, Maryland history and American history. This truly once in a lifetime find up for sale contains handwritten notes in a lined paper book pertaining to the geneaology of several families that seem primarily based in the Talbot and Dorchester County areas on the Eastern Shore of Maryland going back to the 18th century or prior. We believe the author of the book produced the bulk of this work in the early 1920's and intended it as a manuscript as many pages have attached photos and original documents. With the book was found a collection of unbound and detached documents all pertaining to the genealogical information contained within. There are numerous surnames included in the handwritten notes as well as the typed and handwritten documents both bound and unbound with the bulk seeming to relate to the Skinner, Jones, Johnson and Deal (possibly Teal) families of Maryland. Back half of the bound pages are blank with the first half containing handwritten notes, marks and charts. Attached to many pages are original documents, black and white original photographs and clippings of signatures and information from larger documents. Included you will find signatures of Revolutionary War veterans and military officers and more. There are many documents attached to the pages we could not make out due to the age of the document or style of writing that was used. Included attached to the pages that we can make out you will find: 1819 dated military order to an Ensign James Skinner from an Officer of the 48th Regiment Typed info sheet regarding the Skinner Coat of Arms Two clipped and undated documents attached to a sheet giving a list of "Colored People belonging to" a name that reads either Gorsum or Corsum. Autograph of Colonel John Jones dated 1819 clipped from a letter or document Autograph clipped from letter or document of Colonel Thomas Jones dated 1797 1755 dated clipped signature from larger letter or document of another John Jones listed as Father of Colonel John Jones Assessor document from 1852 containing an inventory of a large property along Church Creek belonging to a Horatio Jones Along with the documents attached to the bound pages were found a plethora of loose / unbound documents of handwritten and typed formats along with newspaper clippings, magazine sections, early copies of documents and correspondence pieces all relating to the genealogical subject matter contained within. Included in those documents you will find: Last will of Zacariah Skinner (looks to be an early 20th century copy of a mid 19th century original from the original from a law office), documents for membership and information from the Daughters of the American Revolution. Handwritten poem by Patsy Skinner of Cambridge, MD and many other interesting pieces. All papers (loose and bound) show yellowing, patina and soiling consistent with age. All papers (loose, attached and bound) show varying degrees of wear and tear around seam lines, edges and corners consistent with age and storage manner. Book itself shows wear to surfaces, edges and corners with some surface loss to front and rear cover boards. Book itself measures 10-1/2" top to bottom by 8-1/8" wide by 1" in depth. Largest of loose / unbound documents measures 14" in length. Absolutely amazing collection that was hidden away for years to only now see the light of day. An absolutely incredible source of genealogical information and history of the area, state, region and country as a whole. If you have any questions please feel free to ask.
