Description: The Colophon was a limited edition Book Collector's Quarterly. This volume, number 14, was published in June of 1933. In each edition, some articles are on a current or historical issue related to printing, publishing or art. Some articles were intended to actually be an example of printing or a work of art. Each article or item was produced by a different designer and printer so a typical issue included a range of styles, papers, and typography often with unusual or experimental approaches not seen in mainstream printed items. Each issue would also include an original piece of graphic art, some signed by the artist, often using etching, lithography or engraving. This issue included an original aquatint by the well known artist, Earl Horter. Mr. Horter signed the aquatint in pencil. It is titled, "Bookshop".Earl Horter was an American painter, illustrator, printmaker and art collector. He was a major force in introducing modern art to Philadelphia as an artist and as a collector of Cubist and abstract art. He was considered one of the most important etchers in American art history. Horter was very prolific during the 1920's and 1930's and was most noted for architectural structures and city street scenes. This copy is in very good condition, clean and unmarked. No soil, no age toning, no folds. *** One thing I noticed is that there is an edge that looks like a page was cleanly cut away but there does not seem to be anything missing. Sometimes people did remove the original art from The Colophon, but the Horter piece is in place and untouched. All the articles are in place and in order. None of the pages are numbered because they were produced at different locations and then assembled. *** The boards have minor shelf rubbing only.Ships with USPS media mail, signature required.
