Description: Title: Penrod Jashber Author: Booth Tarkington Publisher: Doubleday Doran, New York Edition: First Edition, First Printing Date Printed: 1929 Description: A unique museum quality association copy. The book is signed and inscribed by Booth Tarkington to his friend and fellow novelist, Kenneth Roberts; "Inscribed for Kenneth Roberts, with the best wishes of Booth Tarkington, Kennebunkport - May 27 1929". Tarkington, a neighbour of Roberts in Kennebunkport, encouraged Roberts to give up his job as a journalist and concentrate on becoming a novelist and edited all of Roberts' early novels. Roberts offered Tarkington a co-writing credit on Northwest Passage. Interestingly, Roberts writes underneath "And passed onto Peter Rollins on the same day by his friend and cousin, Kenneth Roberts". There is a pencilled signature, "Rollins" above the two inscriptions.A nice example of the first printing of the first edition. Original blue cloth with yellow titles to front and spine. 7.5 x 5 inches. 321 pages, plus illustrations by Gordon Grant, all present and correct. The book is in attractive condition, with wear, bumping, and fading (see pictures). Binding sound and square. Toning to prelims. A unique association copy.
