During the last 18 years of his life, he gave away ~$350 million (roughly $5.2 billion in 2019) to charities, foundations, and universities – almost 90 percent of his fortune In 1881, Carnegie took his family, including his 70-year-old mother, on a trip to the United Kingdom. They toured Scotland by coach, and enjoyed several receptions en route. Rinard married Elizabeth Cropp. He was a medical doctor in Homestead for many years and a respected leader in the community. In addition to his role as Director of the former Monongahela Trust Company, he served as Chairman of the Healing Arts Committee of Allegheny County for many years. It was exceedingly important to him in during his lifetime that people who needed public assistance were able to receive adequate medical care. Elizabeth Rinard established two funds with the Pittsburgh Foundation to benefit both her and her parents' churches. This fund supports the First Presbyterian Church of Homestead, honoring the Rinards' commitment to the Homestead community. Very small tears/nicks at top and bottom of spine. Gilt on top is worn but still has shine. Pages have light toning. Scuffing and mild fading to the boards. Previous owner's name stamped on 2nd free end paper. Number across the page from the previous owner's name. 1" tear on top of same page. The book basically has been nicely preserved for its 141 year history. Any issues have been reflected in the pricing.
