Built in 1897, for Joseph B. Chestnutt, the house is in the late Victorian style. An interesting feature about the house is that it is a rectangle with a by window in every room. This feature was probably to let more light in on the side where it is very close to the next residence. The Chestntt house stands facing Forsyth Park. In the 1890's the property around the park was considered the most desirable in the city. This was the gathering place of the social elite, who would go on walks through the center of the park from Gaston to Gwinnett Street.
