Description: Set of 4 Antique Cast Iron Industrial Swivel Casters Twin 1 7/8" Wheels Knuckle This set of four antique cast iron industrial casters is a unique addition to any collection. The twin 1 7/8" wheels are attached to an axle that is housed in a cast iron knuckle-shaped housing. Two smaller wheels rotate on the circular platform mount base plate, making this a versatile and practical item for any business or industrial application. The casters have patent dates of Oct 8, 1877, and Jul 8, 1884, and have a patent number which we could not fully decipher. We did find similar caster designs by S. C. Mendenhall in that time period which featured the small wheel on the base plate but none of his patents had the knuckle and twin wheel features. Still, the idea of the smaller wheels on the base plate was present in many of his patents so perhaps this was manufacturer's interpretation. Antique industrial casters from the 19th century. Have been cleaned and oiled and given a treatment of Fluid Film - a nontoxic lanolin based protection from rust. Fully functional, extremely heavy duty casters.
