Description: San Luis & Rio Grande #8577, Alamosa, CO 6/2008 – 1 Kodachrome 35mm Slide Offered here is a photo of the San Luis & Rio Grande Rwy #8577 (GE 839-8E – 1988) on the property for about a year). So here’s an opportunity to have a photo of the locomotive shortly after it was painted in the SL&RG colors and still “looking good.” It was frequently in freight service and occasionally served on the tourist train to La Veta. The San Luis & Rio Grande (an Iowa Pacific company) took over operation of the former D&RGW standard gauge line to Walsenburg in 2005 but their tenure ended with bankruptcy in 2019. At present, ownership has passed to the Soloviev Group which has restored freight operations under the name of Colorado Pacific Rio Grande. It seems to be busy working with customers (current and potential), upgrading the physical plant and buying a number of newer locomotives. The tourist passenger trains east from Alamosa to La Veta and south to Antonito have not operated since 2019 when a wildfire destroyed the concert venue on the La Veta route. Those trains had been operated under the name of the Rio Grande Scenic. If such trains will be restored remains uncertain at this time. The transparency is protected in a 35mm clear plastic storage sleeve. Add $1.15 S&H via First Class Mail.
